How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

Invisalign® is an innovative orthodontic system that uses clear, removable dental aligners to gradually straighten teeth. All Invisalign aligners are custom-made in order to ensure a precise fit. Unlike traditional metal braces, clear aligners have minimal aesthetic impact and are removable for eating, drinking, and comfortable oral hygiene. The length of an individual’s Invisalign treatment can vary based on the patient’s specific case. On average, however, full Invisalign treatment takes about 12 to 18 months.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign patients wear different sets of aligners for roughly two weeks each, with each new set gradually shifting the teeth into the desired position. Invisalign can be used to correct a variety of orthodontic issues, including overcrowding, spacing issues, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and relapses among patients who’ve previously undergone orthodontic treatment.

Factors Affecting the Duration of Invisalign Treatment

The duration of Invisalign treatment can be influenced by several factors, including:

  • Severity of misalignment or bite issues
  • The patient's commitment to consistently wearing the aligners and following their orthodontist's instructions
  • Frequency of aligner changes
  • The responsiveness of an individual's teeth to the treatment
