At Harlow Dental, we recognize the importance of offering the latest dental technology at our office to help our patients feel comfortable and at ease. Our modern Charlotte dental offices on 7th Street and at Steele Creek include digital imaging, intraoral cameras, and rotary endodontics. We are also pleased to operate practically paperless dental offices!
Remember how uncomfortable X-rays could be when you bit on a piece of plastic and waited for the machine to take a picture? Our digital radiography speeds up the process and gives off less radiation than traditional dental X-rays. The resulting pictures are also more detailed and precise than traditional X-rays, and we can easily email them to insurance companies, outside specialists, or patients as needed.
For your comfort, we have televisions in all our treatment rooms. You can choose from DirectTV, Netflix, or Amazon Prime while waiting or during your procedure.
You can catch up on your favorite shows on your break away from work or school and even explore new movies you haven't seen yet. We genuinely believe that visiting the dentist should be enjoyable, so we offer this small “creature comfort” to help you relax while in our dental chair.
Comfortable Dentistry at Harlow Dental
Yes we do! We understand that many people have some form of fear or anxiety when thinking about dental treatment. At Harlow Dental, we pride ourselves on making our procedures comfortable and pain-free. Ask Dr. Harlow about nitrous oxide gas (laughing gas) and anti-anxiety oral pills that help create a relaxed environment so Dr. Harlow can treat your dental needs. Depending on your medical history, if you've had bad experiences that make you nervous at the dentist, oral sedation dentistry may be right for you!
Are these methods safe?
Both of these methods of sedation are perfectly safe. Nitrous oxide is breathed in through a mask, much like oxygen. Its effects are felt immediately, putting you in a relaxed, almost euphoric state throughout your treatment. Once the mask is pulled off, the effects of the nitrous leave your system very quickly. You will feel completely normal in just a few moments, and you are fine to drive yourself back home or to work.
If you opt for oral sedation, we will give you a prescription for a pill to take an hour or two before your appointment. By the time you get into the dental chair, you will be relaxed and much less anxious. Because this type of medication lingers in your system, you will need to arrange a ride to and from your appointment.
Yes, we do.
At Harlow Dental at Steele Creek, we love kids! We will treat most children (depending on their behavior) at their first dental visit. We look forward to treating your entire family for many years to come, from the youngest member to the most mature.
We encourage you to bring your child to the dentist as early as age one to evaluate baby tooth eruption patterns and discuss pediatric oral health tips. As children get older, we can teach them proper brushing and flossing techniques.
Visiting the dentist at an early age also helps children get accustomed to sitting in the dental chair. Kids who start going to the dentist early in life also tend to have less fear of the dentist as they grow into adults.
We believe that treating children early and getting them started on the path to a lifetime of good oral health is critical for a lifetime of good oral health.
Regular childhood preventive care also helps kids avoid a number of all-too-common dental problems. For instance, we offer dental sealants for kids, a painless and noninvasive process we recommend around the time a child’s six-year molars erupt. Dental sealants help prevent decay-causing bacteria from forming on the back teeth. We also offer fluoride treatment for children as well as adults. Give us a call today to book a cleaning!
Many patients wonder if dental x-rays are safe and necessary, and the answer to both questions is yes. At Harlow Dental at Steele Creek, we utilize digital x-rays because they expose our patients to 80 percent less radiation than traditional film x-rays taken in the past. They are also immediately available so that Dr. Harlow can make the earliest possible diagnosis resulting in less invasive procedures.
Our Dental X-Ray Recommendation
Bite-wing x-rays are recommended once per year. This gives us a baseline and a good look at what's going on internally with your teeth. Generally, four to six x-rays will show changes between your teeth and two exams per year with Dr. Harlow will ensure you are at optimal oral health. Every three to five years, a full mouth series of 18 x-rays are taken to maintain a full updated record of your mouth.
Digital x-rays are not just safer for our patients, they are also less harmful to the environment since they require no chemicals for development. They are also easy to transfer and share with other providers who may be involved with your healthcare.
